Air Malta are to sponsor Portsmouth Football Club for the next two seasons.

Managed by Harry Rednapp, Portsmouth won the 2008 FA Cup and are playing in Europe this year, extending Air Malta’s sponsorship benefit.

With Portsmouth likely to have another good season in the year ahead, the sponsorship deal is likely to increase awareness of Air Malta and the island too.

Palmair, a one plane company operating flights from Bournemouth Airport and who include flights to Malta have come third in a Which? magazine poll of 70,000 holidaymakers for best service.

The winner was Singapore Airlines.

Luxury Cruise ship the Queen Victoria crashed this week while trying to berth in Grand Harbour, Valletta, leaving a 20 foot dent in the rear of the ship.

It happened while the ship was reversing…we understand that the captain is male…

Malta holidays in 2008 are the second best value in the countries where the currency is the Euro for British holidaymakers according to the Daily Mail, with cheap Malta flights helping to keep Malta competitive.

Malta has been placed 21st of over 200 countries in a survey by Jane’s Intelligence Services Company – well known in the UK for their defence analysis.

This survey was about stability and wealth, and as well as being in the top ten per cent of all countries, Malta beat Japan, France, Canada and the U.S.

2007 was officially the best year for holidays in Malta for some six years, with a ten per cent increase in tourists arriving on the island, boosting the Malta hotels and holiday industry. Over 1.1 million people flew to Malta from the UK last year, with the most popular route being London’s Gatwick to Malta, followed by Manchester.

The Hilton Malta hotel has won further praise for the environmental initiatives it has undertaken in the last year, reducing electricity consumption by some 15 per cent. Other hotels in Malta catering for business visitors and those taking Malta holidays are being encouraged to follow the Hilton's initiatives.

Buckingham Palace has announced that the Queen will arrive on the island November 20, a 24 hour visit to Malta before heading to the Commonwealth meeting in Uganda.
